Hello! I’m Leticia…

Despite the many problems my country of origin has, it still manages to have some of the happiest people on Earth.

I can’t help but to express that same appreciation for life into my art.

I currently live in San Diego CA, with my husband Eddie, son Jordan and dog Milo.

I’ve always loved the idea of communicating thru images. As a teenager I was interested in everything from fashion to design, from poems to photography. I have a bachelor’s in communications and a master’s in marketing from Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil, the city I was born and raised in. It was not until 2004 that I decided to move to the US.  Since then, creating has been part of my everyday life and enjoyed every minute of it!

Most of my inspiration comes from human connections and nature–Living close the beach is a blessing! But I’m also inspired by travel, music and my lovely son.

Acrylic is my medium of choice and I love nothing more than turning the music on and “dancing” around my canvas.  Seeing the work coming alive is a feeling that I can’t put in words.  Having special people fall in love with it is the cherry on top!

In 2013 I proudly became an American Citizen.  I now visit my country once a year to see my family and friends, reconnect with my roots and get recharged. Life is good!

The process

Over the years as an abstract artist, I have developed techniques and methods for accessing my intuitive creative voice.

While my main medium is acrylics, I often like to experiment with other supplies to keep it exciting! I have found great joy in incorporating oil pastels, charcoal, and gold /silver leaf in my art.

When I start a painting, there are no rules. Sometimes, I know what I am going to do. Sometimes, I don’t. The key is to get to the studio, play some good music, be aware of the moment and let my creative juices flow.

I often give myself some time away from my paintings. I like to turn it against the wall for two days, or a week. Then look at it again. I come back looking at it with fresh eyes and often see it in a new way, and know what it needs next.

Many people have asked me how long does it take to create a painting. Well, that is a had question to answer. I have pieces that were completed in one week and some took over a year. Once I am finally happy with what is happening in all areas of the work, and with the piece as a whole, the painting is completed.
