I have gone to new levels in my personal growth and spiritual awakening since the pandemic started.
This series, pos Covid-19, represents the spirit of a new way of seeing life. A more simplistic way that brings awareness and gratitude to each day. Growth, not the type you can measure in inches, but the type that expands inside of you.
As I navigate thru my abstraction obsession, besides the straight lines often found in my paintings, this series developed more sculptural forms coming out of the canvases. The designs reflect the organic forms of the bold, curvilinear landscape of mountain ranges, clouds, and rivers I saw growing up in Brazil. The shapes, also inspired in some of the sculptural architecture of Oscar Niemeyer and other modernist geniuses of my home country, are a reflection of the up and downs we face in our lives. The challenges that force us to grow.
A mountain is a perfect metaphor for life. From a distance, it looks smooth, but when you start claiming it you discover unexpected detours along the way. No matter what life can throw at us, I believe that we always come back better in the other side.
With this series I celebrate the growth we experience when we are more consciousness of how our everyday decisions are shaping our lives. I honor the time in life when we start to collect less things and more experiences. When we listen more and speak less. When we give more than we take.
Everyone I watched struggle since last year has handled their challenges head on and become so much stronger because of it. The pain and discomfort each of us has gone through, while oftentimes extremely difficult to navigate, has led us to where we are now and is continuing to guide us to become the people we are meant to be.
Enjoy!
